According to the latest rumors from CR1, this new lens is on the horizon, but they do not know whether it is called Canon EF 24-70mm F2.8L III.
Nikon has already released the new AF-S VR 24-70mm f/2.8E ED lens, with 170g heavier than the old no VR lens.
