According to the latest rumors from CR2, the long rumored Canon EF 24-70mm IS lens is still in testing but they don’t know the announcement date.
There are apparently two versions of the new lens being developed and only one will be coming to the market. Canon has two goals: one is to make the new IS version of the lens noticeably better optically than the current Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM, the other is that the lens has been weight, adding image stabilization adds weight and bulk to a lens. Nikon has already released the new AF-S VR 24-70mm f/2.8E ED lens, with 170g heavier than the old no VR lens.
Reminder: Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM is now $200 Off at Amazon/ B&H/ Adorama.
