According to the latest rumors from CR2, Canon is working on a new 85L to relplace the current EF 85mm F1.2L II USM lens. This new lens will be announced for Photokina in September of 2016.

- incorporate the blue spectrum refractive element as the new announced EF 35mm f/1.4L II
- faster and lighter autofocus system
