So I finally bit the bullet and grabbed the R5 Mark II for my trip to Iceland in two weeks and now I'm panicking because I still haven't picked a wide angle lens. I've been looking at the RF 15-35mm f/2.8 because obviously it's the pro choice but then I saw some reviewers saying the 14-35mm f/4 is actually better for landscapes since it's wider and lighter for hiking. But then others say the f/4 has way too much software correction and it's not true 14mm.
I've got maybe $2k left to spend and I'm stressing about which one will actually handle the 45mp sensor better. Should I just go for the big f/2.8 or is the f/4 enough if I'm always on a tripod?
Ive hauled gear through Icelands mud for years, and honestly, the Canon RF 14-35mm f/4L IS USM is the smarter play. Even with the software correction, it stays incredibly sharp at f/8 on that 45MP sensor. I found the Canon RF 15-35mm f/2.8L IS USM way too heavy for those long hikes. TL;DR: Grab the f/4. Its wider, lighter, and saves you cash for batteries.
