I just got an R6 Mark II and want to start shooting tiny garden insects. I read that the RF 100mm is the gold standard but apparently it has some focus shift issues that people hate. The 35mm is cheaper but isnt 1:1 magnification. For someone with a $1000 budget, which lens is the better pick?

Ive spent tons of time with these and the Canon RF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM is absolutely incredible! You get 1.4x magnification which blows the Canon RF 35mm f/1.8 Macro IS STM and its 0.5x limit out of the water. Even with the slight focus shift issues, the 100mm reach is essential so you dont scare insects away. Its definitely the superior choice for your R6 Mark II!
