I recently got this Fuji X-H2S because my brother said it was the best one for video and stuff but honestly I am a bit overwhelmed because it has so many buttons and I have no idea what I am doing lol. I tried taking some pictures of birds in my backyard yesterday with the lens that came in the box but they just look like tiny little dots and I cant get close enough without them flying away. I think I need one of those really long lenses but when I looked online there are so many numbers like f/2.8 and 70-300 and honestly it makes my head spin. I really dont understand the difference between all the brands either like can I use a Sony lens or does it have to be Fuji??

I dont want to spend a fortune because I already spent way too much on the camera body itself so maybe something around $400 or $500? I have a trip to the zoo coming up in three weeks and I really want to get some good shots of the lions and stuff. Is there a cheap lens that still works good for this camera or am I just out of luck if I dont spend thousands? I saw some stuff about adapters too but that sounds even more confusing so I would rather just something that clicks right on the camera. Sorry if this is a dumb question I just really want to see things far away without the picture getting all blurry or dark...

Honestly, the X-H2S is a lot of camera to start with, but youll get the hang of it soon. Since you want to stay under $500 and skip the confusion of adapters, stick with Fuji X-mount lenses. Sony glass wont fit on your camera directly, so definitely avoid those for now. For the zoo and birds, you want a high focal length—basically that second number like 230 or 300. Here are two solid options:

  • Fujifilm XC 50-230mm f/4.5-6.7 OIS II
  • This is the most affordable way to get decent reach. Its lightweight and fits your budget perfectly.
  • Fujifilm XF 55-200mm f/3.5-4.8 R LM OIS
  • Better build and better in lower light. Look for this one used to stay under $500. Both of these click right onto your camera body. If you get stuck on all those buttons or dials, just let me know... it takes time to learn.
