Man, I just dropped a small fortune on the new R5 Mark II and now I'm paralyzed by the lens choice. I've been shooting Canon since the 5D II days so I'm not a newbie but this new sensor is showing every single flaw in my older EF glass and even some of my early RF stuff. My logic was that I could just stick with my EF 24-70 II and an adapter but the AF speed feels... I don't know, just a bit laggy compared to the native glass and the resolution is so high that I'm seeing soft edges I never noticed before.

So I was thinking about the RF 24-70mm f/2.8 but honestly its such a brick to carry around all day. I do a lot of hiking - actually going to Iceland in about three weeks for a big trip - and the weight is a huge factor. But then I look at the 24-105mm f/4 and I'm worried the f/4 is gonna kill me when I'm doing indoor candids or blue hour shots. Is the 28-70 f/2 the answer? Probably too heavy and way out of budget since I'm trying to stay under $2500 for the glass after the hit my bank account took for the body. I just want one goldilocks lens that stays on the camera 90% of the time without making me regret my life choices on a 10-mile trail. What are you guys actually using as a daily driver for this body...

So I finally bit the bullet and bought an R7 last month cause I wanted better photos of my dogs and my kids running around. The kit lens is alright I guess but I keep seeing everyone say you need a prime lens to get that blurry background look and honestly I am so lost.

I spent like three hours on YouTube last night watching reviews and now I dont even know what mount I need or if the lenses are even made for this sensor size. It feels like every video talks about full frame vs crop and my brain is just mush. I have about 500 bucks to spend tops because my partner will kill me if I spend more right now. I just want something sharp that makes my photos look like real photography and not just like my phone did it.

Do I need the Canon one or can I get those cheaper ones from Sigma or someone else? I feel like such an idiot asking this but can someone just tell me which specific lens I should look at without using too much technical jargon?

So I recently picked up a Canon M50 mark ii to start vlogging my upcoming trip to Tokyo next month, and honestly I am struggling to choose a lens. I am currently using the kit lens but it is just not cutting it, especially when I try to shoot in the evenings or indoors.

I have done a bunch of research online and two lenses keep popping up. The first one is the Canon EF-M 11-22mm. People say it is great because it has image stabilization and it is nice and wide so I wont just be a giant floating head on screen. But the aperture is f/4-5.6 which makes me worried it is gonna suck in low light, especially when I am walking around Tokyo at night. The other option I see everywhere is the Sigma 16mm f/1.4. Everyone raves about the blurry background and low light performance but it is apparently huge and heavy, and it does not have optical stabilization. Since the M50 ii doesnt have IBIS, I am worried my walking footage is going to look super shaky and unusable.

Here is what I am actually looking for:

Budget is around $350 max, though I am totally open to buying used if it gets me a better deal

Weight matters because I will be holding it on a Joby gorilla pod for hours

Needs decent autofocus since I am shooting myself and cannot manually focus while walking

Good low light performance for indoor cafes and night streets

Is there some middle ground I am missing here? Should I just get the Sigma and try to fix the shakes in post, or is the kit lens actually better than I think if I just tweak some settings? Really torn on this and the trip is coming up fast...

My sisters graduation is in three weeks and I really want some nice shots but I only have the basic kit lens. I read that the 50mm f1.8 is the go-to because it's cheap but then other people say the 85mm is the real portrait king for that blurry background. Since I'm on a crop sensor though wont the 85mm be like way too zoomed in for taking photos at the party? I have about $350 saved and I'm so scared of making the wrong choice. Which one is actually better for a beginner doing portraits?

It just doesnt get wide enough for the mountains. My budget is super tight, strictly under $350 because the camera already cost a fortune.

I looked at the RF-S 10-18mm but some reviews say its too slow and plasticky, then others say to just adapt an old EF-S 10-18mm instead. But the adapter adds like $100 and a ton of bulk which I dont want while hiking. I'm just getting mixed signals and im running out of time before my flight. Is the native RF-S glass actually better or should I find a used EF lens?

Finally pulled the trigger on an L-mount body and Im absolutely pumped to get out on the streets of Chicago next month. Seriously cant wait to capture some gritty urban shots. Now I need the right glass. I keep going back and forth between the Leica Summicron-SL 35mm f/2 ASPH and the Sigma 35mm f/2 DG DN. I know the Leica glass is supposed to be magical and that red dot tax is real but is it really worth the extra cash compared to the Sigma?

My budget is around 1800 bucks max so I could swing the used Leica if I find a good deal but the Sigma is so much smaller and I really want to keep my setup discreet for street stuff. Ive also considered the Lumix 35mm f/1.8 since it matches my body perfectly but part of me just really wants that Leica look if you know what I mean. Is the image quality difference actually noticeable when you are just walking around shooting candid stuff or am I just overthinking it? Really wanna make a decision before my trip in three weeks. Which one would you guys grab if you were strictly shooting street?

Are there any actual mirrorless camera deals for Prime Day that arent just total scams or tiny 5% discounts? I have been refreshing my tabs since midnight and honestly I am so frustrated because everything looks like a deal but when I check the price history on some of these trackers it looks like they just jacked the price up last week only to lower it today and call it a massive saving. I am trying to upgrade from my ancient Nikon D3400 because I have got my sisters wedding coming up in August in Wisconsin and I really want something that can handle lower light without looking like a grainy mess but every time I think I found a winner I find a reason not to buy it.

I saw the Sony a6400 is marked down quite a bit and I almost pulled the trigger but then I started reading these forums and people are saying the battery life is basically non-existent and the menu system is like trying to solve a rubiks cube in the dark. Then I looked at the Canon R10 which fits my $1200 budget better especially with the kit lens but then someone else said the lens selection for their crop sensors is pathetic and I am gonna be stuck buying super expensive full frame glass if I want to do anything professional later on. It is like you cant win no matter what brand you pick.

I am literally sitting here with three different tabs open for the Fuji X-S10, the Sony, and the Canon and my head is spinning. I even looked at the Lumix G9II but that is way out of my price range even with the discount. Is there some hidden gem I am missing or should I just give up on Prime Day and wait for a random sale later? My timeline is tight because I need to practice with the thing before the wedding in six weeks so I cant really wait until November but I also dont want to drop twelve hundred bucks on something that is actually a mediocre deal. Does anyone know if there are any bundles that actually include a decent lens or am I just gonna get stuck with a crappy kit lens that I will hate...
