What is the absolute best telephoto lens I can get for my R7 for under 800 bucks? Im heading out to Yellowstone in three weeks and my current kit just isnt cutting it for birds and bears.
I keep seeing people talk about the RF 100-400mm being a great deal, but then I read some forums saying it struggles in low light, which makes me nervous. I also looked at the Sigma 150-600 with an adapter, but the weight sounds like a nightmare for hiking. Is it worth dealing with the extra bulk for the reach, or should I just stick with the Canon native glass and accept the aperture trade-off?

I've taken the Canon RF 100-400mm F5.6-8 IS USM out on my R7 plenty, and the reach you get on a crop sensor is huge. It is so lightweight that you wont mind carrying it all day in Yellowstone, which matters way more than aperture when youre actually hiking. Skip the Sigma with an adapter. Dealing with that extra weight and potential AF weirdness is a headache you dont need right before a trip. Just grab the native glass, maybe bump your ISO a little if you get stuck in the shade, and you'll be golden. It is honestly the best value out there for what you need.
