According to CR, Canon is planning to announce a new no “L” RF 70-200mm f/2.8 IS STM Lens.
Recently, we heard from a source that Canon RF 70-200mm F2.8 IS STM is being developed. The design of this lens is influenced by Canon RF 28-70mm F2.8 IS STM. This means that it will be the smallest 70-200mm F2.8 on the market and will be significantly cheaper than the L lens RF70-200mm F2.8 L.
The second source claims that the lens will be shorter at the telephoto end and will be something like the 70-150mm F2.8 IS STM. This lens is not as attractive as the 70-200mm F2.8.
Another 70-200mm F2.8 would definitely sell well if priced right. Many photographers cannot justify paying $2000-3000 for the current RF70-200mm F2.8L. With improvements to STM, USM is no longer necessary for telephoto zooms.
We believe that the first APS-C (Canon) APS-C constant F2.8 zoom will appear along with the new APS-C camera that will be released in 2025. Canon does not intend to cede all of the APS-C segment to third parties, and will focus on expanding its RF-S lens lineup.
It is more than likely going to be a canon RF 70-180mm f/2.8 STM to go along with the Canon 28-70 f/2.8 STM
