So I finally picked up a Canon R6 because everyone says its great but honestly im feeling a bit overwhelmed by the lenses. I have no idea what I bought this for really other than taking better pics of my daughter and her friends for their graduation next month, so I need something that makes the background look all soft and blurry. Thats what people call bokeh right? Anyway I keep reading about the 85mm lenses versus the 50mm ones and im so confused about the price difference.
My budget is around 600-800 dollars maybe a little more if I really have to but I dont want to spend a fortune since im just a beginner. I was looking at the RF 85mm f2 but then someone said the 50mm f1.8 is way cheaper and does the same thing? My logic was that if the 85mm costs more it must be better for portraits but I dont even know if it fits on my camera without one of those adapter things. Is the adapter necessary for the older lenses? I just want something that makes faces look good without me needing to learn a million settings. Any advice would be huge because i feel like im gonna buy the wrong thing and regret it...

If you want that extra compression for graduation shots, check out the Canon RF 85mm f/2 Macro IS STM. It gives you better working distance so you dont have to stand right on top of the kids. You dont need an adapter for these since they are RF mount lenses, so just pop them on and go. Seriously, the results are amazing and way better than any phone camera. You are gonna love the bokeh!
