I finally saved up enough to get my first real camera which is the Canon EOS R10 and im so excited to actually use it for something other than photos of my cat lol. I have a big trip coming up to Zion National Park in Utah next month and i really want to get those massive mountain shots but honestly i have no idea what i am doing with the lenses. It came with this small lens that says 18-45mm on it but when i try to take pictures of the park near my house it feels like i cant fit everything in the frame if that makes sense? I keep hearing people talk about wide angle lenses for landscapes but then i look online and there are like a million options and different numbers and it makes my head spin.

Sorry if this is a total beginner question but i dont want to spend a ton of money maybe like 400 or 500 bucks max if possible? I just want something that will make the mountains look big and epic like they do in person. Is there a specific lens that fits this camera for a beginner like me or should I just stick with what I have and try to learn that first...

To add to the point above: if you can stretch that budget a tiny bit, the Sigma 10-18mm f/2.8 DC DN Contemporary for Canon RF is incredible. I brought one to Arches recently and the sharpness blew me away! Its super compact and that f/2.8 is a lifesaver when the sun drops behind the canyon walls. Seriously, it makes those landscapes look pro!

Just saw this. You might want to consider the Laowa 9mm f/2.8 Zero-D for Canon RF. Since the R10 is APS-C, this gives you a massive 14.4mm equivalent field of view. Be careful tho, it is a fully manual lens. You wont have autofocus, so make sure to practice focusing before your trip. Its technically excellent for wide landscapes without distortion.

I went to Zion last year with just the kit lens and honestly regretted it because those cliffs are just way too tall to fit in. You definitely need something wider. I suggest getting the Canon RF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM since its cheap, like 300 bucks.

  • Make sure to check if its the RF-S version specifically for your R10.
  • Be careful with the plastic mount, it feels kinda flimsy.
  • Might want to consider a lens hood for sun flare.
