What is the absolute cheapest lens I can get for my new R50 that doesnt suck for portraits? I'm honestly so frustrated trying to figure this out because I spent most of my savings on the body for a trip to Seattle next week and now I've only got about $180 left for glass. Everyone keeps recommending the RF 50mm 1.8 because its cheap but then I read a bunch of threads saying it's way too tight for an APS-C sensor and I'll be constantly backing into walls. Then I looked at the RF-S 18-45 kit but people say the aperture is terrible for low light and I'm gonna be shooting indoors mostly. Is there a middle ground or am I just stuck with a paperweight...

You arent stuck, but I struggled with tight indoor shots when I first got my gear. You might want to consider space.

  • check room sizes
  • watch your distance I learned to be careful.
