What is the best all-around zoom lens for the Panasonic S5II?

picked up an S5II for my kids soccer games and some travel stuff. i read the sigma 24-70 is king but then i see people saying the 20-60 kit is better for the wide end and weight. my budgets around $1000 so i cant really buy both. what is the best all-around zoom lens?
