so basically my sisters wedding is coming up in June and I really want to be the one to take some cool shots of it because she says the professional photographer they hired is super expensive and i figure if i buy a nice camera i can use it forever right? i have been looking at videos online and everyone says the canon r6 mark ii is like the best thing ever for beginners who want to get serious but honestly i look at the prices and my heart just sinks lol.
i have about 2000 dollars saved up from my graduation money and some extra shifts at the coffee shop but the prices i see at best buy and amazon are way higher than that when you add a lens and everything. i live in oregon so at least i dont have to worry about sales tax but still i am so lost on where to look for deals. do cameras even go on sale like clothes do or is it just the same price everywhere? i keep seeing words like body only and kit lens and i dont even know if i need to buy those separate or what. sorry if this is a really dumb question i just have no idea what i am doing yet.
i really want to get this before the end of may so i can practice before the big day. are there any good canon r6 mark ii sales right now that i should know about?
> my heart just sinks lol. I totally feel you! I almost cried looking at gear prices when I started. Tbh skip the R6II and look at the Canon EOS R8 Full-Frame Mirrorless Camera. It has the same sensor and autofocus! I use one for family events and it's fantastic. Grab that and a Canon RF 50mm f/1.8 STM Lens and you're well under $2k. It's a total game changer!
Agree with #2! Definitely check Canon USA Refurbished EOS R6 Mark II Body for a safe deal. It's super reliable and safe. Pair with Canon RF 50mm f/1.8 STM Lens, it's amazing!

Tbh $2k is gonna be tight for that specific body if you want a decent lens to go with it. I really want to warn you about those super cheap prices you might see on random sites that pop up in google searches. Be careful because a lot of them are grey market scams where you dont get a real warranty, or they try to upsell you on stuff that should have been in the box anyway. I would suggest looking at the Canon refurbished store directly. Its a great way to save money and its way safer than buying used from a random person. Since the wedding is in June, you really gotta hurry tho. Shooting a wedding is high pressure and there are no do-overs... make sure you spend every weekend practicing until then. You dont want to be menu diving while the rings are being swapped!
My buddy told me the exact same thing last week. Guess he was right lol.
