What is actually the best landscape lens for the X-H2S because honestly I am about to lose my mind with the gear I have right now. I have been stuck using the 18-55mm kit lens for way too long and I am just totally fed up with the results I am getting lately. I just got back from a trip to the Cascades and looking at my photos on a big screen is honestly depressing because the corners are so soft and mushy it almost looks like there is a smudge on the glass but I checked and it was clean as a whistle. It is just driving me crazy because I spent all this money on a pro-level body like the X-H2S and I feel like I am shooting through a plastic bottle or something it just feels like such a waste of a good sensor.
I really need something that can actually handle the resolution and give me those crisp details in the trees and rocks. I am planning a huge trip to Olympic National Park in about three weeks so I am on a bit of a tight timeline to find a replacement before I head out. I was looking at a few options but I keep second guessing everything I read online:
- the 10-24mm f4 R WR version
- the 8-16mm f2.8 which is huge but maybe worth it
- just getting a 14mm or 16mm prime instead
Having that extra width would be great for the big coastal shots but I keep reading conflicting reviews about how the 10-24 performs on the newer bodies and some people say it still isnt sharp enough at the wide end for professional work. Then there is the 8-16mm which looks amazing but it is so heavy and I dont even know if I can put normal filters on it without some crazy expensive setup. My budget is around 1300 dollars maybe more if I can justify it but I really want something that is weather sealed because it is gonna be rainy and misty in Washington and I dont want to be worried about my gear the whole time. I just want to be able to take a photo and not feel that immediate pang of disappointment when I go to edit it later. Should I just go for one of the red badge zooms or am I better off sticking to primes for maximum sharpness? I am just so tired of wasting good light on bad glass...
i moved from the kit lens to the Fujifilm XF 10-24mm f/4 R OIS WR and i am super satisfied with it. no complaints about the sharpness tbh, and the weather sealing is solid for rainy trips. while the Fujifilm XF 8-16mm f/2.8 R LM WR is technically better, it is huge and costs way more. the 10-24 just works well for landscape stuff without breaking your back or bank.
