sorry if this is a dumb question but I just got an L mount camera and I am so confused by all the lens names. My sisters wedding is in Austin next month and I really want to get those professional portraits where the eyes are super sharp but the background is all blurry. My budget is about 1100 dollars and I dont want to waste it. I was looking at Sigma because people say they are good but then there is the Panasonic brand and I dont know the difference. My logic was that a more expensive lens is always sharper but I might be totally wrong... which one is actually the sharpest?...

You absolutely need the Sigma 85mm f/1.4 DG DN Art for that wedding! I used mine at a ranch shoot last year and the sharpness in the eyes was just mind-blowing while the background completely melted away. It is hands down the best glass for the money. Pro tip: keep your shutter speed high so you dont lose that amazing detail!

@Reply #1 - good point! Sigma is killer but honestly, I'm super happy with native glass for weddings. I've had zero complaints with the Panasonic Lumix S 85mm f/1.8.

  • snappy autofocus
  • much lighter for long days
  • weather sealed for peace of mind Its way under your budget too. Sometimes the most expensive isnt the best for a hectic event like a wedding... just my two cents!

Honestly I have this exact same issue and it's been driving me crazy for like two months! I'm so happy you finally asked this tho because I'm just as lost. I've been trying to find something reliable for my own family shoots but the names are a total mess... it's so hard to know what actually works well. Still haven't found a clear answer myself but I'm definitely staying tuned to see what everyone says! If I find any solid info elsewhere I'll be sure to come back and let you know.
