Which prime lens is best for portraits on L-mount cameras?

So I finally switched to the S5IIX after years on EF glass and I'm honestly kinda panicking about which native prime to grab for a big studio session next week. I know the basics but the L-mount ecosystem is still a maze for me. I need something with creamy bokeh fall-off but I'm worried the Sigma 85mm is too heavy for a long day even though everyone raves about it.

  • Budget: trying to stay under $1100
  • Must have snappy AF for eye-tracking
  • Needs to handle backlit flare well

Is the Lumix 85mm f1.8 actually "pro" enough or should I just bite the bullet on the Sigma Art? I really dont want to regret this right before a gig...

I chose the Panasonic Lumix S 85mm f/1.8 to stay under budget. The technical performance is reliable and I didnt have any flare issues during my sessions.

TL;DR: Look at the Sigma 85mm f1.4 DG DN Art. Just make sure its the newer DN version... its way lighter than the old EF glass you used to carry. Honestly, I'm super satisfied with mine and the eye-tracking is spot on. If weight is still a worry, the Sigma 65mm f2 DG DN Contemporary is a total sleeper for portraits. Both handle flare like a pro. You'll do great!

I learned the hard way that weight kills. My arm went numb during a long shoot last year.

  • Be careful with heavy glass
  • Watch for wrist fatigue Go with the lighter option.
