What is the best budget lens for a Nikon DX because honestly im so fed up with this 18-55mm kit lens?
It keeps hunting for focus and everything looks like mush. I need something sharp for my kids portraits before our Yellowstone trip next month but I only have about $200 max.
In my experience, you gotta get the Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G.
- Sharp glass
- Fast focus Its ideal for portraits and fits the budget tho...
I was really disappointed by cheap zooms early on, mostly because they felt like such a waste of money. They just dont have the technical sharpness for portraits. I finally found success with the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8G used.
- Sharp even at f/1.8
- Fast silent wave motor
- Usually under $150 Its kinda frustrating, but staying under $200 means you gotta hunt the used market for better glass.
Facts.
yo, just saw this. honestly, if youre trying to stay under 200 bucks, just search nikon dx portrait lenses on youtube. theres some really good comparison vids that show exactly how they handle focus hunting. checking the nikon subreddit is a good shout too... plenty of budget threads there with real world samples so you dont accidentally buy another paperweight. used gear sites are usually the best bet for better glass.
