Which prime lens should I buy first for my Nikon because I dont even know what that word means? I have like $150 and I really want to take pictures of my dog in the park this weekend but the kit lens is boring.
Sorry if this is a dumb question I just feel really overwhelmed with all the numbers and I dont want to buy the wrong thing...
Basically, you want a lens that doesnt zoom, which is what prime means. For your budget, I would suggest the Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G. It is way better for dog pics than the kit lens.
- make sure to check if your camera is DX or FX
- watch out for scratches if buying used I started with this lens and it changed everything! Just be careful with focus when your dog is running.
Quickly jumping in because I love this idea! Just curious tho, what model is your camera exactly? If you have something like a D3500, you need AF-S lenses specifically or it wont autofocus at all. Honestly, check out a used Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G on sites like MPB. It is absolutely fantastic for tracking your pup and fits your budget perfectly!
You seriously gotta grab the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8G! It is such a fantastic lens for dog portraits. The f/1.8 aperture is the magic part because it creates that amazing blurry background that makes your pup really stand out. It is way sharper than your kit lens and much better in low light too. You are gonna have so much fun with it this weekend!
