I am so sick of my kit lens its actually making me want to stop taking photos altogether. I live in Seattle and lately ive been trying to get better shots of my family and just random street stuff when we go out but everything comes out looking so muddy and dark. I have a Sony a7iii that I bought used but I only have the basic 28-70mm lens it came with and it just feels so limited. I started looking into upgrades and man its a rabbit hole. I saw people recommending the Tamron 28-75mm G2 because its supposedly the gold standard for budget zooms but then I keep seeing reviews for the Sigma 28-70mm Contemporary saying its much lighter for travel. Im so torn because half the people say the Tamron focus is faster but others say the Sigma has better colors and honestly I just want something that isnt going to break the bank. My budget is strictly under 700 bucks maybe more if I can find a deal on eBay but I need this before my sisters wedding next month. Does the extra weight of the Tamron actually matter for just walking around all day or am I overthinking this whole thing? I just want one lens that can stay on my camera 90% of the time and not make me regret my life choices...
I went through this exact same internal debate last year. I ended up picking the Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 Di III VXD G2 and honestly, im so satisfied with the choice. The weight difference feels like nothing once its in your hand.
- The VXD linear motor is incredibly snappy for candid wedding shots.
- Weather sealing is much better for that Seattle mist.
- Used copies go for about 650 bucks on eBay right now.
