im honestly so fed up with carrying a huge bag of lenses and missing shots because i was busy swapping glass like a maniac. my trip to iceland is next week and i just need one lens that stays on the body. i have $1100 to spend. what is the best all-around lens for sony mirrorless cameras?
> im honestly so fed up with carrying a huge bag of lenses and missing shots because i was busy swapping glass like a maniac. Unfortunately, most people recommend superzooms that have massive compromises in edge-to-edge sharpness. Its disappointing to see how many photographers settle for soft corners just to get extra reach. For a high-stakes trip like Iceland, the Sony FE 24-105mm f/4 G OSS is the only logical choice under $1100. Technically, it outperforms almost every variable-aperture zoom in its class. The 24mm wide end is absolutely vital for those massive landscapes... 28mm just isnt wide enough for scale. Plus, the weather sealing is a requirement, not a luxury, when youre near the spray of Skogafoss. I had issues with cheaper glass failing in damp conditions, so dont risk it. Stick to a constant f/4 G-series for the best balance of weight and technical performance.
Caught this late but I totally get the lens swap fatigue. In my experience, you get way more bang for your buck going third-party. Quick question tho... are you shooting full-frame or APS-C?
- Tamron 28-200mm f/2.8-5.6 Di III RXD
- Sigma 28-70mm f/2.8 DG DN Contemporary Either would be killer for Iceland and wont eat your whole budget like Sony glass.
Just wanted to say thanks for everyone chiming in. Super helpful discussion.
