Which prime lens is the best one for getting really sharp portraits on a Sony camera because I am totally lost? I just got the a7iii and I thought it would just take amazing photos automatically but they look kinda basic with the lens that came in the box. Everyone on YouTube says I need a prime lens for that pro look but there are so many numbers and I dont understand any of them. Is a bigger number better? I keep seeing 50mm and 85mm and I dont know which one is for portraits.
I have a budget of about 600 dollars maybe 700 if I really stretch it but I'm really anxious about spending that much and getting something that doesnt work for what I need. My sister is getting married next month in Chicago and I'm supposed to be taking her getting ready photos and some portraits of her in her dress. I am so scared I am going to fail her and the pictures will be blurry or just look like I took them on my phone. I honestly have no idea where to start and every time I search for sharpest lens I get these long articles with graphs that make my head spin.
I really need something that makes the eyes look super sharp and clear while making the background look like that soft cream stuff. Is that the f-stop thing? Someone mentioned a Sony 85mm lens but then someone else said Sigma is cheaper and better? I dont even know if other brands fit on my camera or if I need an adapter thingy or if it just clicks on.
- Do I need a 1.8 or a 1.4 or does that even matter for sharpness?
- Is 85mm too zoomed in if we are in a small room while she is getting her hair done?
- What is the easiest lens for a total beginner who has no idea what they are doing?
I'm sorry if these are really dumb questions but I'm just panicking a little bit because the wedding is so close and I still havent bought a lens yet...
Look, dont panic. For your budget, I would suggest the Sony FE 85mm f1.8. It is super sharp and fits your camera natively. Just be careful tho, 85mm might be way too tight for a small hotel room. You might want to consider the Sony FE 50mm f1.8 instead if you're worried about space and saving cash. That f1.8 is exactly what gives you that soft background.
Ngl, Sony FE 85mm f/1.8 has better technical resolution than the Sony FE 50mm f/1.8. If the room is tight tho, the Samyang AF 75mm f/1.8 FE is a great middle ground.
