Fujifilm has announced the new XF16-55mm F2.8 R LM WR mark II lens.
The new lens is significantly smaller and lighter compared to the original XF 16-55mm. While the original lens resembled a slightly shorter 24-70mm zoom, the new version appears similar to a modern 24-70mm that has been reduced by approximately one-third, aligning with the expectations set by the smaller image circle of APS-C sensors.
The construction includes 16 elements arranged in 11 groups, incorporating four aspheric elements, three ED (Extra-low Dispersion) lenses, and one Super ED element to effectively reduce chromatic aberration.
The new lens is indeed much smaller than its predecessor, as illustrated on the right.
This lens is the first for the X-mount to come with 11 aperture blades and the ability to de-click the aperture ring. This feature allows for more nuanced aperture adjustments during video shooting, helping to avoid the flickering brightness issues that could occur with the former model, which adjusted in one-third stops.
The Mark II zoom uses 72mm filters, a change from the 77mm filters of the previous version.
This new lens costs $1,199, first available for pre-order at B&H/ Adorama.
