Im getting so annoyed trying to pick a new lens for my a7iii. Ive been shooting with the kit lens for way too long and its just not cutting it anymore for my travel vlogs and the occasional street photography sessions I do here in Chicago. I have about 1200 bucks saved up and I really need something versatile because I hate swapping glass in the middle of a shoot when its cold outside.
I spent all night looking at reviews. Everyone keeps hyping up the Tamron 28-75mm G2 because its supposedly sharp and way cheaper than the Sony G Master lenses. But then I read a bunch of threads saying the focus breathing is a nightmare for video and the colors look weird compared to native glass. Then I looked at the Sony 24-105mm and people say its great but the f4 aperture is kinda meh for when I shoot at night. Im just spinning my wheels here. Everything seems to have some annoying dealbreaker. Does anyone actually have one lens they just keep on their camera 90 percent of the time that doesnt make me feel like I compromised on everything?

I used to switch lenses constantly and it is such a pain in the winter. Honestly, grab the Tamron 28-75mm F/2.8 Di III VXD G2. I know you read about the focus breathing, but for vlogging, its honestly not that bad unless you are doing intense cinematic pulls. The f/2.8 is a life saver in Chicago at night. If you really want that extra reach, the Sony FE 24-105mm F4 G OSS is rock solid too, but losing that stop of light at night is rough. I keep the Tamron on my body 90 percent of the time and I've been super satisfied with the results.
