So I finally picked up a Fujifilm X100V after seeing all the hype on tiktok and im super stoked but also totally overwhelmed. I basically just want to walk around downtown Chicago and take cool candid shots of people but I feel like the lens it comes with isnt quite right for me? Everything looks a bit too wide or something. I honestly dont even know what a prime lens is but a friend told me I should get one if I want those blurry backgrounds. Im pretty new to this whole camera thing so sorry if this is a super dumb question but do I just like unscrew the front part or how does that even work? My budget is maybe like 400 bucks and I want something that makes me look like I know what Im doing before my trip to Japan next month. Is there a specific one you guys recommend for a beginner who just wants to shoot streets without needing to be a tech genius...?
First off, you cant actually remove the lens on the X100V. It is a fixed-lens camera, meaning the glass is permanently attached to the body. If you want that blurry background look, or bokeh, you have to use the built-in f/2 aperture while keeping your subject close to the lens. Since you cant swap lenses, I highly suggest picking up a wide conversion lens if you want to change your field of view, specifically the Fujifilm WCL-X100 II Wide Conversion Lens.
- Use the internal ND filter to shoot wide open in bright daylight
- Get physically closer to your subjects for better separation
- Practice your manual focus skills before your trip In my experience, sticking with the fixed lens will actually help you learn composition way faster than swapping gear constantly. Just master the camera you have for now.
