So Ive been saving up for what feels like forever to finally ditch my ancient 80D and jump into full frame with the R6 Mark III when it finally drops. Im honestly kind of panicking because I want to make sure I get the lens choice right away since Im taking a dream trip to Iceland in February and I really cant afford to mess this up.
Ive been scouring YouTube and forums for weeks and everyone says the RF 24-105mm f/4L is the perfect do-it-all lens because of the reach but then I keep seeing these super aggressive comments saying f/4 is trash for low light and that I absolutely need the 24-70mm f/2.8 or Ill regret it. But that 24-70 is like way out of my budget... Ive got maybe $1,100 or $1,200 left for glass and Im so worried Ill buy the f/4 and then be stuck with grainy shots of the northern lights or something.
Then there is the non-L 24-105 which is way cheaper but is the quality drop gonna be super obvious on a sensor that good? I just want one lens that can stay on the camera for 90% of the time because I hate changing glass in the wind and grit. What do you guys think is the actual best move for a general purpose setup that wont break the bank?
I'd suggest looking for a used Canon RF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM. Be careful with low light, but the R6 sensor is good enough that you wont actually need f/2.8 for everything.
