What is the absolute best telephoto lens I can get for my R7 without breaking the bank? Ive been stressing over this for weeks because I have a trip to a national park coming up in late September and I feel totally unprepared. I looked at the RF 100-400mm and it seems like a solid deal but then I read a few threads saying the sharpness drops off way too much for birding. Then people keep suggesting the 600mm f/11 prime but that fixed aperture scares me since I shoot in the woods a lot. Is there something else under 1000 bucks that actually works or am I just stuck between these two options?
Honestly, grab the Canon RF 100-400mm F5.6-8 IS USM. People complain about sharpness, but on the R7 sensor, it performs great if you know how to process your files.

Building on the earlier suggestion, I disagree that the 100-400mm is the only way to go. If you need better light gathering in those woods, look for a used Canon EF 400mm f/5.6L USM.
