What is the absolute best macro lens I can get for my Canon 90D that actually stays under my strict $500 budget?

Ive been doing macro stuff for years using extension tubes on my nifty fifty, but Im trying to shoot some tiny jewelry details for a local client project next week and the chromatic aberration and soft edges are driving me crazy. I need a dedicated macro lens ASAP. Ive looked at the Canon EF-S 60mm but its discontinued and hard to find in stock anywhere, and the 100mm L is way out of my price range. Is the Tamron 90mm still the go-to or is there something else that plays nice with the 90D's high-res sensor?

Honestly, you hit the nail on the head with the Tamron! The Tamron SP 90mm f/2.8 Di VC USD Macro F017 Canon EF is an absolute beast on the 90D. I used this exact combo for some watch photography last year and the level of detail was mind-blowing! That 32.5MP sensor demands high-quality glass, and the Tamron resolves it beautifully with virtually zero chromatic aberration. You can easily find them used in mint condition for around $350 to $400. If you want to buy brand new under budget, definitely look at the Tokina atx-i 100mm f/2.8 FF Macro Canon EF. It goes for about $399 new. It lacks image stabilization, but the optics are incredibly sharp, easily handling the high pixel density of your 90D. For jewelry on a tripod, you wont even miss the VC anyway!
