Im finally upgrading to the R6 and need a proper portrait lens. My budget is around 1200 bucks and I need something by next month for a family photoshoot in Seattle. Im torn between the RF 85mm f2 and the older EF 85mm f1.8 with the adapter. My logic is that the RF has that sweet macro feature but the EF 1.8 is way cheaper and I already have a stash of legacy glass. Is the native focus speed really that much better on the RF? Im kinda worried about the focus breathing too. Do I really need the native glass or can I save the cash for a speedlight...
Honestly, stick with the native glass if you can swing it. I moved from the EF version to the Canon RF 85mm F2 Macro IS STM and the difference in sharpness wide open is noticeable. The focus motor on the RF is definitely snappier on the R6, and honestly, having that stabilization is a lifesaver for handheld shots in lower light.
