What lens should I actually be using on my R7 for wildlife because Im about to throw my current setup in the trash? Honestly, Im beyond frustrated with the RF 100-400mm I bought for it. I know it is a budget lens, but the softness at the long end is driving me insane and I keep missing shots of birds in my backyard here in Oregon because the autofocus just hunts forever when the light dips even a little bit.
I feel like I am fighting the camera instead of taking photos. I dont have a professional budget, but I am willing to save up for a few months if it means I stop getting blurry results. I mainly shoot backyard wildlife and the occasional trip to the local wetlands, but if I cant get a sharp shot of a hawk sitting on a fence post, whats even the point of having the R7? Is there something better that wont cost me my entire savings account or should I just look into adapting older glass? Im at my wits end here...
@Reply #1 - good point! Honestly, I struggled with the same softness. You might want to consider the Sigma 150-600mm F5-6.3 DG OS HSM Contemporary with an adapter, just be careful with firmware.
TL;DR: Stop fighting the gear. Before you drop a grand, what is your actual max budget? I had issues with that same zoom lens, honestly, it just isnt as good as expected for fine detail. Have you thought about the Canon EF 400mm f/5.6L USM? It is older but tack sharp if you adapt it. Unfortunately, light is always gonna be the enemy with smaller sensors tho.
