so I finally decided I want to get into photography and everyone says the Canon R6 Mark II is like the best one to start with if I have the money but wow it is pricey lol. I'm planning this big trip to Japan in November and really want to take good photos of the temples and stuff but my budget is strictly under 2300 dollars for the body and I'm super nervous about spending that much.
I saw some random sites listing it for cheap but they looked kinda sketchy and I dont want to get scammed? My logic was maybe there are some back to school sales or something I'm missing? I literally have no idea where to even look besides Amazon or Best Buy. are there secret coupons or something people use because I really want this camera before I leave next month...
> budget is strictly under 2300 dollars for the body Wait, have you already picked out lenses or is that 2300 for the whole setup? Japan is gonna be insane but glass is where the real money goes lol. Be super careful with those too-good-to-be-true sites, they're usually gray market imports without a warranty. If you wanna save, I would suggest checking used listings for the Canon EOS R6 Mark II 24.2MP Mirrorless Camera on sites like MPB or KEH instead.
Like someone mentioned, the refurb store is okay, but unfortunately, Canon has been really stingy with actual sales lately. Tbh, it's pretty disappointing how high prices have stayed. I've had issues with people jumping straight into the R6 line as their first camera and then realizing they have no money left for decent glass. It's a bit of a trap. If you spend 2k on a body and put a cheap lens on it, your Japan photos are gonna look like they came from a phone... which would be a total waste of a trip. I'd actually disagree with the idea that the R6 is the only way to go. You should go a bit cheaper on the body so you can get lenses that actually matter for architecture and low light in those temples. Maybe look at these instead:
- Canon EOS R8 24.2MP Mirrorless Camera Body - basically the same sensor as the R6 II but way lighter for hiking around Kyoto
- Canon RF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM Lens - this is the versatile lens you actually want for a big trip
- Canon RF 35mm f/1.8 Macro IS STM Lens - small and perfect for low light street shots You should check used sites like KEH or MPB. They give you a real warranty, unlike those sketchy discount sites that are basically just scams. Honestly, it's not worth the risk of getting a brick in the mail right before you leave. Getting a used Canon EOS R6 Mark II Mirrorless Camera Body from a reputable dealer is way smarter than hoping for a secret coupon that isnt coming. Just keep it real with your budget or you'll regret it when you're actually there trying to shoot in a dark temple with a kit lens.
Can confirm
just saw this thread and honestly id be super careful with those random sites you found. I had a nightmare once where I tried to save money on a lens from some shop I found on a random forum and the box literally showed up empty... took me forever to get a refund and it was just so stressful. I'm always paranoid about that stuff now so I only stick to the big name stores even if it costs more. Your Japan trip sounds amazing tho. I went a few years back and ended up spending way too much time obsessing over my settings instead of actually looking at the temples. I actually got lost in Kyoto for like three hours because my phone died and I didnt bring a backup battery. My feet were totally destroyed because I wore those fancy walking shoes everyone recommends but they just didnt fit me right... spent half the trip looking for band-aids and complaining lol. If the price for that specific one is too high you might want to consider just getting some Nikon gear or maybe a Sony setup. Go with Sony, you cant go wrong with their tech lately. Just make sure to buy from somewhere legit so you have a warranty. anyway, but yeah.
Definitely check the Canon EOS R6 Mark II Mirrorless Camera Body on Canons official refurbished store!!
- Totally safe
- Big savings
- Fantastic quality Dont trust those sketchy sites!
