Im finally looking to upgrade from my crusty old DSLR and jump into the mirrorless world but man is the market confusing right now. My budget is around 1200 bucks max and I need something solid by next month for a trip to Japan. I saw the Sony a6400 bundles everywhere online and my logic was that since its popular, it must be the safest bet, but then I read a thread saying the autofocus on the newer Canon R50 is way better for travel vlogging and now im back to square one.
Ive also been seeing these weird third-party bundles on Amazon that come with like 10 cheap filters and a flimsy tripod, and honestly those just look like junk? But then the official retailer bundles seem to save you like 50 bucks on a lens so maybe its worth it to just grab one of those.
Im just really struggling to tell if the savings are actually decent or if im just gonna end up with a lens I hate. Is anyone seeing any legitimate deals on beginner-friendly mirrorless bodies right now, or should I just buy the body and lens separate and stop obsessing over these kit packages?
Skip the fluff. Grab a Fujifilm X-T30 II 26.1MP APS-C Mirrorless body and get a prime lens instead. The film simulations are perfect for street photography in Japan, trust me.
Forget the bundles. Most of those extra accessories are just landfill fuel. I switched to the Sony Alpha 6400 24.2MP APS-C Mirrorless a while back and it works well for travel, but the Canon EOS R50 24.2MP APS-C Mirrorless really is snappier for video. If I were you, I would just buy a body only and snag a decent prime lens. Youll be much happier with the glass quality that way for your trip.
Honestly, avoid those Amazon bundles like the plague. Most of that extra gear is complete trash that will break in a week. I had issues with the kit lenses in those packs, honestly not as good as expected for travel.
