I have been staring at the product page for the X-T5 for like three months now and the price literally hasn't moved a single cent. Its honestly getting so frustrating because I am sitting here with my old Sony A6400 which is fine I guess but I am just totally over the menu system and the colors always look so clinical to me. Ive been wanting to switch to Fuji for the dials and the film sims since I absolutely hate spending hours in Lightroom after a long day of shooting.
My logic was that since the X-T50 just came out surely the X-T5 price would dip even just a little bit or maybe there would be some bundle deals? But nope. It is stuck at that $1,699 price point everywhere here in Seattle. I checked Glazers and even the big box stores like Best Buy but nothing. I have got this big trip to Europe coming up in late July—flying out to see the Olympics and then heading to the Swiss Alps—and I really wanted to have the Fuji kit ready by then so I can actually get used to the controls before I am standing in front of the Eiffel Tower. My budget is pretty firm at $1,500 for the body because I need to save some cash for the 23mm f2 and maybe a spare battery since I hear the battery life is better than the old ones but still not amazing.
So I was thinking maybe there is some secret cycle Fuji follows that I dont know about? Like do they usually do a summer sale in June or something? I looked at some historical price data and it seems like it hasnt really had a major price drop since it launched which is just wild to me given how fast tech moves usually. I even considered going used but even the used market is basically retail price once you factor in shipping and the risk of getting a sensor with a scratch on it. Its making me want to just give up and look at the Nikon Zf but I really want those Fuji colors man. Does anyone have any lead on if a sale is actually coming or if I should just bite the bullet and overspend because I am running out of time before my flight...
Just saw this and yeah, @Reply #1 is spot on about the pricing. Fuji rarely budges until a camera is practically ancient, and since the X-T5 is their flagship APS-C sensor model, they have zero incentive to drop the price right now. > My budget is pretty firm at $1,500 for the body Honestly, if you want that $1,500 price point and need it by July, your best bet is looking for an 'Open Box' unit from a major retailer like Adorama or B&H. I've bought open box gear several times and it is basically new but with the discount you need. It is way safer than buying used from a random person on a forum. I am super happy with my Fujifilm X-T5 Mirrorless Digital Camera Body and the 7-stop IBIS works well for those low light shots in the Alps. No complaints with the build quality either, it feels very robust. Since you are worried about power, definitely grab the Fujifilm NP-W235 Lithium-Ion Battery instead of third-party ones. I have had zero complaints with the official cells, and they hold a charge much better when you are out all day shooting. For the lens, the Fujifilm XF 23mm f/2 R WR Lens is a solid choice because it is weather-sealed, which is gonna be huge if you get caught in a drizzle in Switzerland. If you can find an open box deal, jump on it. Don't wait too long tho, those units disappear fast and you need time to learn the film sims before your flight.
Fuji is known for maintaining strict price floors. Youre unlikely to see a discount before your July trip. Since your budget is firm at $1,500, look for a used Fujifilm X-T5 Black 40.2MP from a dealer with a return policy. If you cant find one, the Fujifilm X-S20 Digital Camera 26.1MP is a capable alternative that stays within budget while offering the latest film recipes. It basically does everything you need.
Listen, I spent months tracking the X-T-series pricing data for my gear blog and the reality is Fuji is super stubborn. They know the Fujifilm X-T5 40.2MP Mirrorless Camera Body is basically in a league of its own right now. Since it packs that incredible 40.2MP X-Trans 5 HR sensor and the X-Processor 5, they dont feel the pressure to drop prices like Sony does with their older kits. I was obsessed with the specs when it launched and honestly, the 7-stop IBIS is a total game changer for travel photography!
- The X-T50 actually uses the same sensor and processor, so it wont cannibalize sales. If anything, it just keeps the flagship price high because it validates how good the tech is.
- Historical data shows Fuji usually does Summer Instant Savings but it is often for older glass, not the flagship bodies that are still flying off shelves.
- You really need that lead time before the Alps! I took my Fuji kit to the Dolomites last year and trust me, you want your film sims like Reala Ace or Classic Negative dialed in before you hit those peaks. Honestly, if you want to save that cash for the Fujifilm XF 23mm f/2 R WR Lens and a spare Fujifilm NP-W235 Li-Ion Battery, check for official refurbished units. They usually hit that $1,500 sweet spot and come with a warranty. Just bite the bullet soon... that 40MP resolution is gonna make those Eiffel Tower shots look like professional gallery prints compared to the Sony A6400 APS-C Mirrorless Camera output!
Great info, saved!
