I am in a total panic because my main camera crapped out and I have a family reunion shoot in San Diego this coming Sunday. I have a super tight budget of maybe 350 to 400 tops and I need something that wont fail on me. I spent the last three hours refreshing the Canon refurbished site and they have the SL3 for a decent price but it keeps going in and out of stock which is driving me crazy... kinda losing my mind here lol.
Then I checked KEH and they have some bargain grade 80Ds but I heard those can be really beat up and I dont have time to return it if it arrives broken. My head is spinning with all these tabs open. Some people on reddit say to just get a used Sony a6000 but I really prefer the feel of a DSLR and I already have one old EF lens I can use so it makes more sense to stay with Canon I think. I also saw a Nikon D5600 bundle on eBay but the seller has zero feedback and I cant risk getting scammed right now.
Are there any specific coupon codes or flash sales happening this week that I missed? I really gotta pull the trigger on something in the next few hours so it ships in time. Does anyone know where the actual best deals are sitting right now?
I would suggest avoiding zero-feedback eBay sellers entirely when you are on a tight deadline. You might want to consider the Canon EOS Rebel T7 24.1MP DSLR with 18-55mm IS II Lens as a reliable fallback if the SL3 stays out of stock. It fits your budget perfectly. Be careful with KEH bargain grades; make sure to check MPB instead since they show photos of the actual unit.
To add to the point above: you absolutely have to check out MPB right now! They are fantastic for reliability because they actually show photos of the specific unit youre buying. I love it because there is zero guesswork compared to KEH bargain ratings. Since you already have EF glass, staying with a body like the Canon EOS 70D 20.2MP DSLR is a brilliant move. Its such a robust, amazing workhorse for events and feels very solid in the hand. Here are some solid bets for your budget today:
- Canon EOS Rebel T6i 24.2MP DSLR
- Canon EOS 77D 24.2MP DSLR
- Canon EOS 70D 20.2MP DSLR Seriously, dont gamble on eBay for this! MPB ships super fast and their grading is very conservative, so even a 'Good' condition body will usually look great. Just grab one and breathe easy for Sunday!
Re: "To add to the point above: you absolutely..."
- I totally agree about checking MPB over KEH bargain bins for a deadline this tight. Knowing exactly what the camera sensor looks like is worth the extra ten bucks. If you cant find a cheap 80D, these two are solid fallbacks for that Canon glass:
- Canon EOS 70D 20.2MP DSLR: This is a workhorse with a pro-style layout. It has the top LCD screen and better weather sealing than a Rebel. Its a bit older but handles beautifully and feels very stable in the hand.
- Canon EOS Rebel T7i 24.2MP DSLR: This uses the same sensor as the 80D but in a lighter, plastic body. It lacks dual dials but the image quality is basically superior for low light. The 70D feels more rugged for an outdoor event, but the T7i is better for technical performance. Both are usually under 400 right now.
