Im honestly losing my mind trying to figure out where to actually buy an a7IV without getting ripped off. My budget is capped at like $1900 because I still need a lens but prices are jumping everywhere. I checked B&H and they have the standard sale but then I saw people on reddit talking about Greentoe and how you can name your own price? That sounds super sketchy to me... like do I still get the Sony warranty? My logic was to wait for a big holiday sale but I need this for my sisters wedding in three weeks. People keep mentioning grey market stuff on eBay too but I’m terrified of getting a brick. Is there a secret spot I’m missing?
Be really careful with those crazy eBay prices. I almost got burned once by a seller who ghosted after the camera arrived with a scratched sensor. For a wedding, I would suggest sticking to authorized shops so you dont stress.
- Look for an open-box Sony Alpha a7 III 24.2MP Mirrorless Camera to stay under budget
- Pair it with a Sony FE 50mm f/1.8 Prime Lens for portraits
- Only buy from places with a return policy
> That sounds super sketchy to me... like do I still get the Sony warranty? Tbh I had no complaints using Greentoe for my Sony Alpha 7 IV Mirrorless Camera Body. It felt weird naming a price but it went through a legit US shop so the warranty is totally fine. If you are tight on time tho, check for a used Sony Alpha 7 III Mirrorless Camera from a site like MPB. I have been super happy with their gear and it is way cheaper.
Good to know!
I definitely agree with Albert regarding the risks of auction sites for a high-stakes event. I have been very satisfied sticking to authorized dealers to ensure the warranty is valid and the gear is reliable. Since you are on a three-week deadline, are you acting as the primary photographer for the wedding or just attending as a guest? Also, have you factored in the cost of extra batteries and memory cards into that $1900 budget? Those little things can really eat into your lens fund if you arent careful.
