Where can I find discounts on Sony mirrorless cameras this week?

Been shooting E-mount for ages but I'm finally ready to grab an A7IV as a second body and wow the pricing is weirdly stiff this week. Usually I'd just hit up B&H or Adorama but they're both showing full MSRP which is a bummer since I've got a gig next weekend and really need to get this sorted before then.

Trying to stick to these specs:

  • Budget around $2100 max
  • Must be a legit US warranty
  • Needs to arrive by Friday

Are there any hidden EDU deals or maybe some smaller authorized dealers running specials I don't know about? I tried Greentoe but it’s taking forever to get a counter-offer...

Just saw this and figured I would chime in because shipping speed is gonna be your biggest hurdle now. If you really need the Sony Alpha 7 IV Mirrorless Digital Camera Body by Friday, you might want to consider checking out the trade-in promotions at authorized shops like Samys Camera or Roberts Camera. Sony usually runs a program where they give you an extra $200 credit on top of whatever your old gear is worth. Even if you trade in a beat-up kit lens you dont use anymore, that bonus might bring your out-of-pocket cost down to that $2100 mark while keeping the legit US warranty. A few things you should be careful about before pulling the trigger:

  • Make sure the dealer is actually an authorized Sony retailer or you wont get that warranty coverage if something breaks during your gig.
  • Double-check the shipping cut-off times since its already mid-week.
  • Look for bundles that include a high-speed card like the Sony TOUGH-G series 128GB SDXC UHS-II because that adds about $200 in value even if the camera price looks high. I would suggest calling the shops directly instead of just checking the website... sometimes they have floor models that they can sell you at a discount but they arent allowed to list them online due to Sonys MAP policies. Tbh, if you buy it today and pay for expedited shipping, you should be fine. Just be wary of any deal that seems way too good to be true, usually means its a gray market import.

TL;DR: Prices are stuck at MSRP due to Sony MAP cycles, but you can hit $2100 if you use EDU discounts or call smaller shops for unadvertised specials. Unfortunately, you picked a weird week for a deal. Sony has been really aggressive with their price floor lately and finding the Sony Alpha 7 IV Full-frame Mirrorless Camera below MSRP at the big shops is basically impossible right now. I have had issues with Greentoe recently too; it used to be a 2-hour turnaround, but now it takes days to get a decent counter-offer. It is not as good as it used to be, which is a real bummer when you have a gig coming up and need reliability. If you need it by Friday, your best bet is checking EDU programs. If you or anyone you know has a .edu email, B&H usually drops the price for the body down closer to that $2100 range instantly once you are logged in. Another trick is checking smaller authorized retailers like Focus Camera. They sometimes offer instant savings in the cart or include extras like a Sony SF-G128T Tough 128GB SDXC V90 memory card which at least adds value to the purchase. Just be careful about those sketchy eBay listings. If the price is way lower than everyone else, you wont get that US warranty you mentioned. Stick to the authorized list, but maybe try calling a shop like Samys directly. Sometimes a human can do more for you than an algorithm can, honestly.

I totally agree with what was said about open-box gear being the move to beat those stiff prices. Honestly tho, I had a bit of a nightmare trying to do exactly that for my current backup setup. I thought I was being clever and snagged a like new unit, but when it showed up, the sensor had some weird marks and the dials felt really mushy. It was super frustrating because I had a big event that weekend and ended up spending my Friday morning panicking instead of prepping. I learned the hard way that those ratings are sometimes just a guess by a warehouse worker who's rushing. Not exactly the reliability you want for a professional gig. Now I always call the shop and make them physically check the item before I pay for that fast shipping. If they wont do that, I just dont risk it anymore... reliability is everything when you have a job on the line.

No way, I literally just dealt with this yesterday. Small world.

Building on the earlier suggestion, in my experience you can often bypass those stiff prices by hunting for authorized open-box units. Over the years, I've grabbed several bodies this way. If you check the used sections of major retailers for the Sony Alpha a7 IV Mirrorless Digital Camera Body, look for the 9+ or Open Box tags. You usually get the full USA warranty and stay way under your 2100 budget. Its definitely the safest route when you're on a tight deadline. Greentoe is great but honestly way too slow when you need it by Friday. I'd even check with Kenmore Camera Sony Alpha a7 IV as they're a legit authorized dealer and sometimes have unadvertised specials if you call them up. They're super reliable and usually get things shipped out immediately. Good luck with the gig!
