Whats the best cheap lens for taking portraits of people on the Fuji XS20? I just got the camera a week ago and I'm really struggling to understand what I actually need to get that blurry background look everyone has. Sorry if this is a really basic thing to ask but I'm totally new to this. I have about 250 dollars saved up and I'm hoping to get something before my sisters wedding in three weeks. People keep talking about prime lenses and 50mm vs 35mm and my head is kind of spinning lol. Is there something simple that wont break the bank but still looks professional?
I would suggest the TTArtisan 56mm f1.8 AF Fujifilm X-Mount. It has an 84mm equivalent focal length which is ideal for compression. Just be careful with the f1.8 aperture tho... you might want to stop down slightly so you dont get too much purple fringing. Make sure to use the latest firmware for the STM motor. It should give you that professional look! Let me know if you need more help with the settings.
Building on the earlier suggestion, everyone has really pointed you in the right direction with the 56mm focal length and the idea of buying used to save cash! That blurry background look is basically a result of having a wide aperture and a longer focal length. For a wedding in 3 weeks tho, you really need to prioritize reliability and autofocus speed. I remember shooting my first wedding with a lens that kept hunting for focus in the dark reception hall... it was so stressful and I missed the cake cutting! I felt like such a disaster. I honestly think you should look at the Viltrox AF 56mm f1.7 XF Fujifilm X-Mount. It is an amazing piece of glass that fits perfectly under your 250 dollar budget. Technical-wise, it gives you an 84mm equivalent field of view which is the absolute gold standard for portraits because it compresses the background and makes people look fantastic. I love it because it is sharp even wide open at f1.7. Compared to a 35mm, the 56mm will give you way more of that creamy bokeh you are looking for. Just make sure you practice with the autofocus settings on your Fujifilm X-S20 before the big day. You want to be sure it is locking onto eyes perfectly! It is definitely a safer bet than some random manual lenses because it actually talks to your cameras computer. You will do great!
I started with a used lens I found online.
- Large apertures are what give you that blur...
- Buying used gear is way more cost-effective if you're on a budget.
Did this last week, worked perfectly
