What is the best budget zoom lens for Fujifilm X-S20?

So I finally pulled the trigger on the X-S20 after rocking my old X-T20 for like five years and man the difference is crazy. That IBIS is a total lifesaver especially since I have shaky hands when I am tired and the video features are just miles ahead of what I was used to. But here is where I messed up big time. I poured almost my entire gear budget into the body and a fast prime because I thought I could survive on just a 27mm f2.8 for everything. Big mistake. I have this trip to Olympic National Park coming up in like three weeks and I realized I am gonna be so limited if all I have is a pancake lens. I need something that can handle the misty forests and maybe some wildlife if I get lucky though I know I cant get a crazy telephoto for cheap.

I looked at the 18-55mm kit lens because everyone says its the gold standard but prices for it used have gone up weirdly lately? Like I remember when you could snag them for 250 bucks but now people want way more even for copies with a bit of dust. I also saw the 15-45mm power zoom thing but I have heard the build quality is kinda plasticky and the electronic zoom might drive me nuts for stills... I really prefer a manual twist for zooming. Then there is the Sigma 18-50 f2.8 which looks amazing and tiny but it might be pushing my $450 budget unless I find a really lucky deal on eBay or something.

Does the X-S20 autofocus behave better with the newer third party lenses like the Sigma or should I stick to native Fuji glass? I am also considering just getting a cheap XC 16-50mm to hold me over but I dont want to waste money if the image quality is gonna look muddy on that 26mp sensor compared to what I am used to. I basically need the best balance of reach and sharpness without breaking the bank before I head out to Washington. What is the best budget zoom lens for this specific body that wont feel like a total downgrade from my primes?

Definitely look at these two options for your trip:

Ive spent years hiking with Fuji gear and honestly, the budget XC glass is underrated! I took the Fujifilm XC 16-50mm f3.5-5.6 OIS II on a similar trip and the results were incredible. It is a manual zoom and definitely wont look muddy.

This is exactly what I needed to hear. Youre a lifesaver honestly.

I've been looking at the listings and honestly, I'm pretty disappointed with how prices have stayed so high. It's frustrating when you're on a strict budget. I actually had issues with a cheap XC lens failing on me during a damp hike once, so I really wouldn't recommend going that route for Olympic. The Fujifilm XF 16-80mm f4 R OIS WR is often not as good as expected in terms of corner sharpness, which is a letdown, but the weather sealing makes it much more reliable than the 18-55mm for your specific trip. Found some listings on MPB recently that fit right in your $450 range. It's a solid resource because they actually inspect the gear, unlike random eBay sellers. Another option is the Tamron 17-70mm f2.8 Di III-A VC RXD but it's unfortunately very bulky. The balance on an X-S20 is just off. Use a site like CameraSize to see how it looks before committing. Personally, I'd go with the 16-80mm for the build quality alone, even if the optics aren't prime-level. It's a better long-term investment for travel.

Like someone mentioned, XC glass is surprisingly good. In my experience, the Fujifilm XC 50-230mm f4.5-6.7 OIS II is the best value for wildlife reach on a budget. Its light and very sharp at the long end. For Washingtons weather, consider:
