Honestly im so frustrated right now with my current setup. I just upgraded to the X-H2S because i needed the speed for a big gig coming up but the kit lens i have is just... it is not cutting it at all. The autofocus feels sluggish compared to what the camera can actually do and everything is coming out kinda soft and just not what i expected for this price point. Im actually starting to panic because the job is a wedding in Seattle in like two weeks and i know the lighting is gonna be garbage. I need a prime that can actually keep up with this sensor because otherwise i feel like i wasted so much money on the body.
- Budget is strictly under 900 bucks since i spent most of it on the camera
- Needs to be fast because of low light indoors
- Autofocus has to be dead on for tracking people moving
- Weather sealing would be nice since it rains here constantly
I was looking at the 33mm f1.4 but then i heard the 23mm might be better for tighter spaces or maybe the old 56mm? But then people say the older ones are too slow for the newer bodies and im just confused. Which prime actually takes advantage of the X-H2S speed without breaking the bank? I really cant afford to mess this up...
You should be very careful about using older glass on that sensor. To actually utilize the AF speed, I would suggest looking at the Fujifilm XF 33mm f1.4 R LM WR. Definitely avoid the original 56mm as that motor is just too slow for tracking... it wont keep up. The 33mm fits your budget and has the linear motor you need for low light. Just make sure you dont ignore the weather sealing in Seattle.
Honestly, you have the best sensor and processor combo Fuji makes right now, so dont choke it with old glass! You need lenses with Linear Motors (LM) to actually utilize that insane AF tracking. Since you are worried about the budget, you HAVE to check out the Viltrox 27mm f1.2 PRO AF Fujifilm X-Mount. It is a total game changer for the price. It is weather-sealed, sharp as a razor, and that f1.2 will be a literal lifesaver in a dark Seattle church. Best part? It is usually around $550, which is a total steal compared to native glass. If you want to stay native, the Fujifilm XF 23mm f1.4 R LM WR is the one to get for those tighter indoor spaces. It is incredible. The focus is dead silent and lightning fast... perfect for those candid moments where people are moving around. It sits right at the top of your $900 budget but the weather sealing is top-tier for that constant drizzle. Stay far away from the older 23mm or 56mm versions tho. They use DC motors that chatter and hunt, which will drive you crazy on an X-H2S and youll miss shots. For the ceremony, if you can swing it later, the Viltrox 75mm f1.2 PRO AF Fujifilm X-Mount is another budget monster that produces professional results for way less cash. Seriously, these newer third-party Pro lenses are amazing and they keep up with the high speed of your body perfectly!
Unfortunately most budget glass isnt as reliable as expected. Try looking used, youll pull through tho! Reminds me of that one Seattle wedding where the tent literally collapsed... anyway lol.
