Been shooting street forever but just grabbed an X-Pro3 and the OVF parallax is throwing me off way more than expected. Need a prime for a Chicago trip next week. Budget is around $600.

  • super compact
  • fast AF
  • doesnt block the finder

Is the 23mm f2 the play or should I go with the 27mm pancake?

I've been so satisfied with the Fujifilm Fujinon XF 35mm f2 R WR for my weekend street sessions. I grabbed mine used for around $300 and saved a ton of money. It barely blocks the OVF and the AF is basically instant.

  • super compact
  • very budget friendly
  • sharp wide open It's worked well for me without breaking the bank.

Just saw this thread while browsing... Honestly, if youre heading to Chicago next week, you gotta think about the weather as much as the glass. I spent a week there a few years back with just an older body and a non-sealed lens, and a sudden lakefront downpour almost fried my setup. It was a stressful lesson in reliability. For the X-Pro3, I eventually landed on the Fujifilm Fujinon XF 16mm f2.8 R WR for my street stuff. In my experience, everyone jumps to 23mm or 35mm, but I found that the wider 16mm actually helps solve that parallax anxiety youre feeling. When youre close to subjects, the OVF frame lines on the X-Pro series shift so much it drives me crazy. With the 16mm, you get such a wide field of view that you can basically shoot loose and crop later, which saved my skin during some fast-paced street festivals. Plus, its tiny. It doesnt block the finder at all, which is a huge deal for that rangefinder experience. I've tried many primes over the years, and for a trip where you might get hit with rain or wind off the lake, having that WR seal gives me so much peace of mind. Its fast, silent, and honestly feels more rugged than the price tag suggests. Just makes the whole kit feel reliable when youre out there all day and dont want to worry about your gear failing.

I was so disappointed with the Fujifilm Fujinon XF 27mm f2.8 R WR because the AF felt unreliable. Honestly, it wasnt as good as expected for quick shots. Are you shooting mostly day or night in Chicago?

  • the Fujifilm Fujinon XF 23mm f2 R WR is safer for reliability
  • internal focusing prevents mechanical failure I just want you to have a safe trip without gear issues!
