honestly fed up with this kit lens. i was trying to get shots of my niece in a dim restaurant last night and everything is just mushy and grainy. its so annoying because the X-S20 cost me a fortune. i need a fast prime for street stuff and low light under 400 quid. which one is actually worth it?

Been super happy with the Sigma 30mm f1.4 DC DN Contemporary for low light. Stays on my camera mostly.

  • Reliable autofocus
  • Sturdy build feels safe
  • No complaints honestly

I agree with the previous post that the 35mm is a solid choice, but I would suggest the Fujifilm XF 23mm f2 R WR if you're doing street stuff. It's a bit wider, so you're less likely to miss the shot because you're too close in a restaurant. You might want to consider these points to stay safe:

  • Stick to native Fuji lenses. Some off-brands have autofocus glitches that can be a real pain to fix with firmware updates.
  • Make sure you check for the WR branding. It's much safer for your X-S20 if you're caught in a drizzle or dusty street.
  • Be careful buying from random sellers online. If the price is too low, it might be a grey market import with no valid warranty. It fits under your 400 budget and is way more reliable than that kit lens imo.

> i need a fast prime for street stuff and low light under 400 quid. In my experience, even a great sensor like the one in your X-S20 is gonna struggle when a kit lens is choking the light. Over the years I've found that moving to a fast prime is the only real way to fix that mushy look in dim restaurants. For your budget, the Sigma 30mm f1.4 DC DN Contemporary for Fujifilm X is probably the smartest move. Its incredibly sharp and that f/1.4 aperture lets in significantly more light than your current zoom. It makes a massive difference for grain. If you prefer something native and small for street work, the Fujifilm XF 35mm f2 R WR is a solid veteran choice. Its weather sealed and focuses instantly, tho you lose a bit of low light capability compared to the Sigma. Both are lightyears ahead of that kit lens.

Saw this earlier but just now responding. What focal length do you actually prefer for your street shots? You might want to consider the Fujifilm XF 35mm f/2 R WR because it is small and weather sealed. Be careful with older f1.4 lenses that might have slower autofocus tho. I would suggest looking at the Viltrox 23mm f/1.4 AF if you need a wider angle for under 400.
