Leaving for my Dolomites trip in five days so I gotta buy something now. Read the 10-24mm is the standard go-to but then saw people raving about the Viltrox 13mm being sharper for cheaper. I only got $800 and I'm worried the Viltrox is too heavy for the X-S20 body... which one should I grab?
Honestly, since you are heading to the Dolomites, you might want to consider the weather. I would suggest the Fujifilm XF 10-24mm f4 R OIS WR because it is weather-sealed. Be careful with the Viltrox AF 13mm f1.4 XF since it is a bit of a brick and isnt sealed.
- Fuji is safer for mountain rain
- Zoom range helps in tight spots
- Better balance on the X-S20
Like someone mentioned, weight is key. I unfortunately hated the Viltrox AF 13mm f1.4 XF balance... it felt awful hiking, so save cash and grab the Samyang AF 12mm f2.0 Fujifilm X instead.
Would love to know this too
I'd grab the lighter one honestly. I think you're right to worry about the balance on that X-S20 since it's a smaller body. Not sure but I heard some of those cheaper wide angles have issues with purple fringing in high contrast mountain shots. Maybe look for a tiny 12mm prime? I think those are usually way lighter and IIRC they're much cheaper too.
