I've recently switched to a camera system with an L-mount and am looking to expand my lens collection, specifically for landscape photography. I'd love to hear your thoughts and experiences on which L-mount lenses you consider to be the best for capturing stunning landscapes.

Factors I'm considering include:

  • Sharpness and overall image quality
  • Wide-angle focal lengths
  • Weather sealing for outdoor use
  • Portability for hiking and travel

I'm open to suggestions from any brand that produces L-mount lenses, such as Sigma, Panasonic, or Leica. If you could share your personal favorites and why you recommend them, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you in advance for your insights and happy shooting!

Honestly I gotta disagree slightly with the zoom obsession! If you want absolute peak performance and reliability in the field, you really should look at the primes. Zooms have way more moving parts that can fail when you are out in the dust and rain... plus the weight! Check these out if you want unreal sharpness:

  • Sigma 20mm f/1.4 DG DN Art
  • The corner resolution is just nuts, even wide open. Plus that MFL switch is a lifesaver for astro-landscapes.
  • Panasonic Lumix S 18mm f/1.8
  • Super lightweight for hiking but the weather sealing is top notch. Quick tip: Always check the rear rubber seal before mounting in the wind. A tiny bit of grit there ruins the weather sealing instantly! If you are doing long hikes, the weight savings on these primes is gonna be a total game changer for your back lol.

> I'm open to suggestions from any brand that produces L-mount lenses, such as Sigma, Panasonic, or Leica. Ngl I have the exact same problem right now. Ive been trying to settle on a wide-angle setup for like three months and im still totally stuck. Im generally happy with the L-mount system and how it works well with all these different brands, but the choice is actually paralyzing tho. Its frustrating because everything looks good on paper but picking one is impossible... been dealing with this since I got the body and i just cant find a clear winner. I have been looking at the official L-Mount database and technical reviews on LensTip to see how the Sigma stuff compares to Panasonic but it hasn't helped much yet. I like how Sigma usually offers more value for the money while the Lumix glass seems to have better integration, but honestly no complaints either way, just cant choose.

Here are my top recommendations for L-mount lenses well-suited for landscape photography:

  1. Sigma 14-24mm f/2.8 DG DN Art

    • Extremely sharp wide-angle zoom
    • Robust build quality with weather sealing
    • Relatively compact and lightweight for its specs
    • Excellent value for the performance
  2. Leica Super-Vario-Elmar-SL 16-35mm f/3.5-4.5 ASPH

    • Superb image quality across the zoom range
    • Compact and lightweight design, great for hiking
    • Weather-sealed for harsh conditions
    • Leica's exceptional build and attention to detail
  3. Panasonic Lumix S Pro 16-35mm f/4

    • Sharp and versatile wide-angle zoom
    • Constant f/4 aperture throughout the range
    • Weather-sealed and durable construction
    • Lighter and more affordable than faster options
  4. Sigma 20mm f/1.4 DG DN Art

    • Impressive sharpness even at wide apertures
    • Unique perspective for dramatic landscapes
    • Well-built with weather sealing
    • Fast aperture for low-light and night sky photography
  5. Leica APO-Summicron-SL 35mm f/2 ASPH

    • Exceptional optical performance and color rendering
    • Compact and weather-sealed design
    • Versatile focal length for landscapes and travel
    • Leica's renowned craftsmanship and durability

These lenses offer excellent image quality, wide-angle perspectives, and the build quality needed for outdoor landscape photography. The Sigma and Panasonic options provide great value, while the Leica lenses deliver top-tier performance at a premium price point.

Ultimately, the best choice will depend on your specific needs, preferences, and budget. I recommend renting or borrowing these lenses to test them out before making a purchase. Remember, the best landscape lens is the one that inspires you to get out and capture the beauty of the world around you!
