I'm honestly so lost and kind of annoyed right now. I just bought this Panasonic S5II because everyone online said it was the best but my pictures just dont look sharp at all. I have no idea what I am doing and there are way too many lens options out there and it's super overwhelming. I need to take some professional looking photos for my sisters wedding in New Jersey next month and I'm panicking a little bit because I dont want them to look blurry or cheap.

  • my budget is maybe $600 to $800 if that works
  • it has to be a prime lens i think?
  • needs to be the sharpest one you can get
  • something that works well in low light since the venue is dark

what should i even be looking at???

Seriously, dont stress! You should definitely grab the Panasonic Lumix S 85mm f1.8. I use this lens for weddings all the time and it is freaking amazing! It is super sharp even wide open, which is huge for dark venues. It gives you that pro look with the creamy backgrounds and the autofocus is snappy on your S5II. TL;DR: The Panasonic Lumix S 85mm f1.8 is the sharpest, most reliable low-light choice for your budget.

You're gonna love that camera once you get some solid glass on it! Honestly, if you want the absolute sharpest results for that wedding, look no further than the Sigma 50mm f1.4 DG DN Art L-Mount. This lens is a total beast! It is scary sharp even wide open at f1.4, which is a total lifesaver for those dark venue shots. Sigma really knocked it out of the park with this one and the image quality is just fantastic. If that feels a bit too pricey, definitely grab the Panasonic Lumix S 50mm f1.8 instead. It is way more budget friendly and honestly, for around $400, the sharpness is just insane. It leaves you plenty of room in your budget for extra SD cards or a flash... you'll definitely want those for a NJ wedding! Good luck, you've got this!

Building on the earlier suggestion, the Sigma Art glass is definitely the peak for that pro look. Im really satisfied with how the L-mount ecosystem handles these high-res primes. If you want to nail those wedding shots, here are two more that work well:

  • Sigma 35mm f1.4 DG DN Art for L-Mount: This is basically a resolution monster. It is insanely sharp even at f1.4. Perfect for wider shots of the altar or the dance floor where light is scarce.
  • Sigma 65mm f2 DG DN Contemporary: Dont let the f2 fool you, the optics are clinical. It is exceptionally sharp across the frame and light enough to carry all day. Great for your budget too. Practical tip: the S5II has amazing dual native ISO, so dont be afraid to bump it up to 4000 or 6400 in that dark venue to keep your shutter speed high. Itll look great! Just keep practicing with the eye-autofocus before the big day...
