Ive been shooting with the SL2 for a year now mostly doing street stuff with the 35mm but lately Ive been getting more requests for formal headshots and I'm hitting a wall. My 35mm is great for candids but its distorting features too much when I get close. My logic was that a 50mm Summicron would be the versatile choice but then I saw some shots from the 75mm and 90mm APO lenses and now I'm second guessing everything. I have about $5000 to spend before a big wedding shoot in Chicago next month and I cant decide if the 90mm compression is worth the extra reach or if itll be too tight for indoor work...
I went through this exact thing. For headshots indoors, the 90mm is amazing but you might want to be careful since you need lots of room. I would suggest:
- Leica APO-Summicron-SL 75mm f/2 ASPH: the sweet spot. Good compression without feeling trapped.
- Leica APO-Summicron-SL 90mm f/2 ASPH: gorgeous but might be too long for cramped venues. The 75mm is safer for that Chicago wedding. Good luck with the shoot!
Re: "I went through this exact thing."
- Seriously, get the Sigma 85mm f/1.4 DG DN Art for L-Mount!
- Faster AF
- Way cheaper I used it for a tight Chicago wedding and loved it!
