Of all the upcoming Nikon Z lenses, this 35mm f/1.2 S prime is the one I'm most excited about adding to my kit. So when will this lens released ? and what is the price should be ?
Re: "eberer is totally right about those preorders, nikon..." - honestly people get caught up in the hype every single time a new S-line prime drops. Ive seen this for years. Everyone talks price and release dates but ignores the actual usability.
- The glass quality on these f/1.2 lenses is top tier but they are massive. Youre looking at a huge front element that makes the camera feel unbalanced.
- Focus speed is often slower because those motors have to move heavy glass. For street work with a 35mm, that lag might ruin your shot.
- Cost vs performance. If it hits $3000 like the Nikon NIKKOR Z 85mm f/1.2 S, you really have to ask if that extra stop is worth the weight. Personally, I always wait for the first batch of real-world reviews. Early copies sometimes have QC issues that get ironed out later. Unless you absolutely need f/1.2 for your professional look, the Nikon NIKKOR Z 35mm f/1.8 S is much more reliable for 90 percent of shooters... just my two cents.
Based on infomations on the web, this lens could be announced in the first half of 2024, price around $3000 I guess.
price $2,800, just like NIKKOR Z 85mm f/1.2 S launch price
Same setup here, love it
eberer is totally right about those preorders, nikon glass is basically impossible to find if you dont move fast. adding to that tho... people really need to be careful with these f/1.2 primes. they look cool and the bokeh is nice but from a practical side they can be a real headache. honestly keep these things in mind:
- the weight is gonna be massive for a 35mm lens
- filter sizes for these are usually huge and expensive
- it will probably feel super front-heavy on a standard body i've owned heavy glass before and after the honeymoon phase wears off, it usually just sits in the bag because it is too much effort to carry around. if you're not shooting for money every single day, the lighter versions are way more cost-effective and actually get used. just saying... dont get caught in the hype trap unless you really need that specific f/1.2 look.
Basically, if you look at how Nikon priced the Nikon Z 85mm f/1.2 S, you should expect to pay at least $2,700 for the Nikon Z 35mm f/1.2 S. Probably closer to $2,800 once you factor in the current market. As for the date, rumors usually point to a Q4 announcement for these heavy hitters to hit the holiday rush. I've tried many primes over the years and honestly, these f/1.2 lenses are specialty tools. They are phenomenal for that creamy transition and subject separation, but they're heavy as hell. If youre shooting all day, your wrists are gonna feel it. Unless you specifically need that f/1.2 look for clients, the Nikon Z 35mm f/1.8 S is a much more practical choice for like a third of the cost. I love the high-end glass, but for a 35mm, the weight of an f/1.2 setup makes it a very different beast compared to the old F-mount days... just keep that in mind before dropping three grand on a preorder.
In next one or two months.
Just a reminder, if you need this lens, pre order ASAP before sold out, it will like other high-end Nikon lenses for out of stock for weeks or months.
$2796.95
When will be released ?
