Ive been a landscape guy for like ten years now sticking to my heavy tripods and zooms but I just booked a last minute trip to NYC and Im so pumped to try actual street photography for once. Usually Im shooting on a D850 and my 24-70mm 2.8 is just way too intimidating for candid shots.
I want something fast and small that wont break the bank maybe under $400 used. Been looking at the 35mm 1.8G vs the old 28mm AF-D but I cant decide if the older glass is too slow for fast moving people? Whats the best f-mount prime that stays low profile but keeps up with the action?
Honestly, I had issues with the Nikon AF 28mm f/2.8D. It was not as good as expected for street stuff... unfortunately the autofocus just feels too sluggish for moving people on a D850. Try these instead:
- Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G ED - way faster focus and sharp.
- Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8G - really cheap, light, and tiny. Youll have an awesome time in NYC though!
