im honestly so fed up trying to find a decent walkaround glass for my kit right now, Ive bought and returned three different primes this month alone and my upcoming trip to Seattle next weekend is stressing me out big time. one was way too soft in the corners, another had terrible autofocus hunting issues on my older body while being fine on the newer one, and i just want something reliable that wont let me down regardless of what camera body i slap it onto. my budget is around eight hundred bucks max. which prime lens actually works consistently across the entire Sony lineup without making me want to pull my hair out...

> my budget is around eight hundred bucks max. which prime lens actually @Reply #2 - good point! But honestly, before dropping cash right before a trip, what body are you actually shooting with? Mixing older and newer sensors can be sketchy. I would suggest looking at the Sony FE 50mm F2.5 G instead. It stays well under your budget around six hundred bucks, and autofocus reliability on mixed bodies is rock solid. Just make sure to test the weather sealing too before you leave!

Look at the Sigma 35mm F1.4 DG DN Art if you want serious optical performance without destroying your wallet. Finding a true workhorse under 800 bucks can be annoying, but third-party glass has gotten insanely good lately.

  • Linear stepping motor handles phase-detect AF flawlessly across both legacy and modern sensors
  • Edge-to-edge sharpness holds up even wide open at f/1.4
  • Weather sealing actually survives rainy Seattle weather without fogging up I tested mine on an old a7ii and a newer a7iv, and focusing speed was practically identical. Plus you can usually find them on sale close to your budget if you look around.

man i feel your pain, return fatigue is so real when a trip is right around the corner. honestly i had issues with soft corners on a couple popular choices too before finding something that just works everywhere.

  • Sony FE 35mm F1.8 is an absolute lifesaver tbh
  • autofocus is super snappy even on older bodies like the a7ii
  • sharp edge to edge and well under your budget around $750 new or way less used not as good as expected for pure macro stuff obviously, but for walking around seattle youll get killer shots. just slap it on and forget about gear anxiety.
