Are there any good mirrorless camera deals right now? Sorry if this is a totally dumb question but my phone camera is finally dying and I need something for a trip to Japan next month and I have no idea where to start with all this stuff. Im looking to spend around 600 bucks max, maybe a little more if it comes with a decent lens, but honestly even that feels like a lot for someone who just takes pictures of food and street corners. Every time I look online my head spins with all the numbers and sensor sizes and letters like FX and APS-C that mean nothing to me. Do stores have sales going on right now or should I just wait until black friday or whatever? If anyone knows a simple kit thats good for total beginners and doesnt cost a fortune please let me know...

Quick reply while I have a sec... be careful jumping into the a6000 since the EVF resolution is pretty dated by modern standards. Make sure to check out the Canon EOS R50 RF-S18-45mm IS STM Lens Kit instead if you can stretch just a bit. I upgraded to it last year after struggling with older sensor tech, and the dual pixel autofocus is lightyears ahead for tracking moving subjects in crowded Tokyo alleys. You want something with reliable phase detection so your food shots dont end up blurry.

Late to the party here but grabbing a camera right before Japan is definitely the right move. Don't wait for Black Friday since you need it for your trip next month. If you want something super user friendly that wont break the bank, look at the Fujifilm X-T200 24.2MP Mirrorless Camera. Fujifilm is honestly great for beginners because their color profiles make food and street shots look incredible straight outta the camera without needing to mess with editing software. The kit usually comes with the Fujifilm XC 15-45mm f 3.5-5.6 OIS PZ Lens which is tiny and lightweight, exactly what you want when walking around Tokyo all day. Around 600 is totally doable used or refurbished if new stretches it, and sites like MPB or KEH are super reliable for that stuff. You dont need to stress about sensor sizes right now. Just get a lightweight body, slap a basic zoom on it, and practice for a few days before you leave so you arent figuring out settings while standing in front of a ramen shop. Have an awesome trip!

Japan next month is gonna be amazing! You seriously need a dedicated camera for all those incredible street food shots.

  • Grab the Sony Alpha a6000 24.3MP Mirrorless Camera with the kit lens right now.
  • It hits that 600 dollar sweet spot perfectly.
  • The APS-C sensor completely destroys any smartphone in low light. Have an epic trip!
