Are there any decent deals on Canon bodies floating around right now because I am seriously itching to upgrade? Ive been shooting on my trusty 6D for years now but honestly the autofocus is just killing me during my street sessions lately and the lack of eye-tracking is making me lose my mind. I really wanna jump over to the R series, specifically looking at the R6 Mark II if I can find it for a decent price. I have about 1800 bucks set aside for the body and maybe a lens adapter, but if I can get a kit deal that would be even better. Ive checked the usual spots like B&H and Amazon but everything looks like standard MSRP right now. Im based in Chicago if that matters for local store sales or something. Does anyone know if Canon is planning a promo or if I should just bite the bullet before my next big trip in late September? Im getting impatient because this gear lust is real and my current setup is starting to feel like a paperweight compared to what my buddies are rocking...

If youre stuck on the 6D, the jump to mirrorless is gonna feel insane. I love my Canon EOS R6 Mark II 24.2MP Full-Frame Mirrorless because the AF acquisition is basically instant.

Building on the earlier suggestion, the jump to mirrorless is a massive performance boost for street work. If you really want that specific body, keep an eye on the Canon refurbished site. They often drop the Canon EOS R6 Mark II 24.2MP Full-Frame Mirrorless significantly below MSRP, and it is basically brand new with a full warranty.

  • Check the Canon direct site daily around 10 AM EST for restocks
  • Consider the Canon RF 35mm F1.8 MACRO IS STM Lens for street photography since the optics are crisp
  • Look into the Canon Control Ring Mount Adapter EF-EOS R so you can keep using your legacy glass I am perfectly satisfied with the performance of the R6 II, especially the dual pixel CMOS AF II tracking. It handles low light and motion much better than the 6D ever could. Dont wait until September if you can snag a refurbished unit now.

Honestly, I felt the exact same way when my old dslr started struggling with focus. It was super frustrating. I ended up waiting for a holiday sale instead of buying at full price and that extra cash helped me get a better lens. If you have until September, id just keep an eye on the certified refurbished section. Those units have been solid for me and usually come with a good warranty, which gives me peace of mind.

Like someone mentioned, jumping to mirrorless is definitely a massive upgrade for focus tracking. I would suggest keeping a few reliability things in mind before you pull the trigger on anything.

  • Make sure to check the return policies carefully if you go the used route, since older gear can sometimes hide shutter count issues.
  • I would suggest sticking with a solid full-frame option from Canon EOS R6 Mark II 24.2MP Full-Frame Mirrorless if weather sealing is a big deal for your street walks in the city.
  • Be careful buying from random third-party sellers on marketplaces just to save fifty bucks. Just get a solid mirrorless body from Canon and you cant go wrong for street stuff, especially with your budget.
